32.0 Say our name

Sian has been restricted from speaking in chat for just over a year, and for most of that time she’s been locked into the display name sian k-7139 (the serial number was comprised from the first letter of Sian’s original username and the first four digits of her UUID). And it didn’t seem so important to declare it, but Sian had actually back in July 2024 bought a new surname, because you can do that with a Premium account. At the time she’d had the surname Alpha and she had picked that because she originally thought it was sort of science fictional and futuristic. But she hadn’t taken into account the awkward political connotations of it, and she became tired of people assuming she had hideous politics. When the surname Harmony came up she realised that this was the actual name she needed. Aside from the thing about being permanently locked by Lust Melody, and therefore going through SL as a complement, a support, a secondary note that enriched, the Harmony that made the Melody better, so to speak, Sian Harmony has a lovely ring to it. It’s just a really nice name. It’s easy to say and it has lovely scansion: if you want to get technical, its four syllables[1] fall in the form of an Ionic metrical foot (– – ◡ ◡), a historic poetic form that was in its origins used uniquely for song lyrics. It seems lovely that it is a name that is made to be sung.  

Anyway, Sian explained to Lust that she wants to own the name. It’s part of who she is, the way she presents. Lust was convinced, and so Sian gets a  display name that’s the same as her username for the first time for years. And that includes capitals. Which explains why Sian has started typing using the full capacity of the keyboard, both here and inworld, again for the first time since forever. 

Calypso and Emily, Sian’s SL partners, were both keen to take the Harmony surname too. So now you can keep up with the Harmonies. 

[1]Yes, four syllables. In Welsh, the unit “si” followed by a vowel has the quality of English “sh”. Sian’s name does not sound like the name of a primary additive colour.
