Yesterday, Sian asked Core (that is, Lust Melody) what would be a pleasing thing for her to do. Core said, “Choose a limb. That one’s cybernetic from now on.” And so, with a prosthetic left hand, Sian enters the world of elective amputation in SL before RL!Sian does. One of the reasons Sian loves cyberpunk aesthetics is that it signifies a queering of the body, a moulding of the way we see ourselves into the form we want.
When is that going to happen in the real world? Sian’s finally, over the last few months, got to see Gender Services. Promises have been made, and already not kept. In the movie I Saw the TV Glow (Jane Schoenbrun, 2024) there is a bit where the closeted, aging protagonist walks over a stretch of road on which are chalked the words There is still time. But is there? RL!Sian had a big birthday the other week. It went well, but the thought remains, when is this going to happen?
