one of the scariest parts of transitioning is that for a while, the dysphoria becomes worse. there’s a feeling that rl!sian is having a lot now of intense dysphoria, the sense that she will never have the features of a woman, that she will be as ugly and grotesque as the terfs assume that everyone who transitions is. of course, some of the trans people sian knows are among the most hauntingly beautiful humans she has ever met. but there is this fear that she will never have the identity she longs for.
a lot of cisgendered people feel like that, too, of course. a second life avatar is never going to be anything other than an ideal, even for someone who had a head start on the act of becoming.
